About Chetwynd Energy Club
Welcome to the Chetwynd Energy Club, your local community group dedicated to building a sustainable, energy-positive future for our neighbourhood.
We are a Community Interest Company (CIC) that was established to explore and promote renewable energy solutions tailored to the needs and aspirations of residents in Chetwynd. Our mission is to make energy efficiency, renewable technology and community-led energy projects accessible, affordable and beneficial for everyone living in our area.
What We Do
At the Chetwynd Energy Club, we focus on investigating innovative ways to reduce energy consumption, lower bills, and decrease our community’s carbon footprint. We’re working on projects like community solar networks, promoting home energy improvements such as solar panels and insulation and raising awareness about funding opportunities and sustainable living.
Our aim is to empower residents to take control of their energy future while supporting wider efforts to achieve a greener, more resilient community.

Our History
The Chetwynd Energy Club was developed from the Toton & Chilwell Neighbourhood Forum and its Neighbourhood Plan, which set clear policies for developing a sustainable and energy-positive area.
One of the core aspirations within the plan is for Chetwynd to become a community that is not just energy-efficient but energy positive, generating more renewable energy than it consumes.
Since then, we have been dedicated to turning these aspirations into reality. So in…
We commissioned a research study conducted by masters students from the University of Nottingham. Their work revealed that most householders in Chetwynd are open to installing rooftop solar, if a solid business case and support mechanisms can be demonstrated. This initial research provided the foundation and motivation for us to develop practical, community-led solutions that align with our area’s ambitions.
We completed an initial project funded by a regional government grant to develop a potential local solar energy network, owned and run by residents (Click on the Feasibility Study tab above to access the results). It’s about creating something lasting and meaningful that benefits current and future generations.
